If I wanted to make a platform in two steps, could I just put wood on a platform bed frame?
I'm really not at all handy, but I want a platform for a studio apartment so I can hide a trundle/drawer bed underneath it. Also: How might I estimate how much a homemade platform could hold?

UPS broke my guitar amp, so I made a new head shell for it
Pics or it didn't happen: http://ift.tt/1MTkHE7
UPS managed to beat my amp to hell during shipping and the box was totally destroyed. If I took the front faceplate off it would just collapse. I didn't trust to put anything on top of it so I decided a new head shell needed to be built. I'm no woodworker and I don't have many tools but I gave it a shot. Overall the new box cost me like $60 and my time.

New sink cracked in rental
Hey there,
I have been living in my rental for three months now. When I first moved in the sink/vanity had just been replaced. About two weeks ago my wife noticed an imperfection in the top portion of the sink, a few inches from the basin. It looked like a hairline crack about a foot long, but was so small that she thought it was just a manufacturing error. We recently returned from vacation and found that the crack has grown and widened considerably. I have not dropped anything on the counter, and the crack runs almost straight up.
I thought the crack itself and how quickly it worsened was odd. I inspected it closely and noticed that there was some sort of particle board shim installed underneath one side of the sink (cracked side) to level out the counter top. There is about a centimeter gap below the porcelain before meeting the base on the cracked side. The shim seems to have been placed to even out the noticeably unlevel base of the sink/cabinet.
Please tell me that this isn't common practice. I think the crack was caused by the improper installation causing tension on the porcelain during standard daily use. It seems pretty obvious to me that this is what caused it, but I want my suspicions verified before I go running to the landlord.
Thanks

Bolting a SentrySafe to a 2nd Floor Closet
I have a SentrySafe SFW123GDC I want to bolt to the floor in the closet of a bedroom on the 2nd story of my house, in a corner of the closet.
The safe came with (2) 5" Inch Lag Bolts, (2) Masonry anchors, and washers. How would I go about mounting the safe to the floor? I know as much to drill into the safe where the indentations are and insert the bolts, but I have no idea how to attach the ground anchors or drill into the floor.
It's a carpeted closet, so I will be removing the carpet where the safe is. Under the padding appears to be plywood. I have no idea if I'm going to be running into any plumbing, or electrical. The wall that the safe touches is adjacent to the bathroom and toilet.
I can always move it to a different part of the closet if it's too close to the plumbing.
I'm not familiar with floor stud spacing since I'm drilling into wood and not just plain foundation concrete.

Base board adjustment?
Hi all!
A couple years ago we had stained concrete work done in our entire down stairs. We are super happy about how it turned out, but fore the base boards: There's a bout a 1/4 inch gap between the base boards and the floors now and "we'll call someone" turned into just sitting on the project for a while until now I'd like to address it.
I'd like to either find a way to fill the gap, move the current base boards, or ( if we have to ) replace them so that they're flush with the floor. It's not so bad that you don't immediately notice, but knowing it's wrong, I see it every time I look around now.
I'm not sure how to address this properly - I tried googling various DIY methods, but I think I'm looking up the wrong key words. Any thoughts on how we can fix this in a reasonably cheap manor? We called a carpenter and he quoted us $2700 to install, and $800 to paint new base boards - it felt a bit excessive and I'd like to just do it myself if it makes sense.
Thanks!

DIY Question- waterproofing a truck box?
I built a custom sized storage box to fit into my truck last summer, and it was great. However, low and behold, the rains of winter came and with it, a little mold/mildew on the wood (and on the stuff inside the box because water of course got in). So I think I need to rebuild, figure out a way to do some sort of rubber seal to keep water out, but also make sure that the wood itself doesn't just keep getting saturated.
What kind of wood would be best for something like this? Best way to weatherproof? (Epoxy, varnish etc?)
Thanks DIY!!

Converted garage to an office, but need some ideas on sound dampening
I started up a business 6 years back. Back then needed to do things as cheaply as possible, so I took the three car garage put up a wall (super basic wood frame, no fire blocks, with plain .5" drywall on both sides, (no insulation in bays), and a interior pre-hung hollow core door) and took over the two car part as my office. To help it from sounding like I was in the bathroom when talking to clients, I put in various carpet scraps and some small plants and potted trees. Overall it worked great for the last few years.
During this time, had a couple of kids and the wife wants to turn the 1 car part into a kids play room. The garage doors are an insulated roll-up, and it does a decent job at cutting down the outside noise. It is the kids playing in the next room (the 1 car part) that is too much. Typical 3 year old and 1 year old boys playing. In any case, i want to cut a 6" hole in the top of each bay in the wall to fill with blow in insulation to help with sound dampening. (i don't really need it for temperature as in the summer it stays about 80 degs, and in heart of winter about 70, So Cal weather). Is this a good idea to help with sound or is there a better, similar cost thing? I looked into these sound board things that "float" on these hangers/pegs attached to existing wall but overall they are too expensive, since i don't need to sound proof this room, just more than it is now.
For the hollow door, I was thinking of drilling a few small holes in the top and just put a couple of cans of expanding foam and a basic weather seal around the frame and a sweep on the bottom, as if it were an exterior door. Would this help increase the sound barrier at all or is that hopeless? Is there any other better solutions short of replacing the door?
