Mission: 1970s tv console conversion -need advice

Hi everyone!

I'm looking to start a project and was hoping for any advice or tips you can offer.

I've found a beautiful six foot wide walnut tv console with turntable, stereo and 8 track and I need to have it in my living room now! The thing is, I'd like to remove the television and use the empty space for shelves to hold stuff. The building of the shelves seems easy enough, but I'm hoping not to get electrocuted removing the television. Any tips, pointers or warnings you could throw my way on that would be much appreciated as I'd rather not end up crispy.

The other part is that I'm hoping to wire the speakers up to something that would allow me to jack in an iPhone or television into the the speakers, because they have the most beautiful, velvety sound and are quite powerful. Cranking up the volume is like having Darth Vader singing Barry White while massaging your feet.

It looks like there are sound inputs for each speaker in the back of the beast. Is there an easy setup that would make this work?
