My wife has become convinced that we are going to die due to the usage of our gas, propane, fireplace. I bought a very nice detector that detects carbon monoxide, elves and hobbits, placing it near the fireplace. I made sure to use a reputable gas company, get their brochures and had the guy talk to her at length about usage, maintenance, etc. She is convinced a wood fireplace is safer and wants to convert our fireplace to wood burning.
She also got an estimate to have the small (and I think it is the smallest) propane tank moved some 100 to 150 feet from our house which will cost me $$$ in installation.
tl;dr: how safe is a fireplace? wood? gas? propane? How close should the tank be? Should I just fill in the fireplace with plants and call it quits?
