Sorry for the wall of text. My wife and I needed a new receiver since our old one blew the AMP. For Christmas my wife bought a NAD T-758 for $1000 since she heard how amazing the audio was. It has enough HDMI ports for our devices, but does not have a 4k passthrough. It also has MDC which potentially allows you to change out video/audio modules as technology changes (assuming a module has been released). Looking these up they currently do not offer a 4K module and the modules themselves appear to be extremely expensive. So this morning I was looking at other receivers and found something that looks much more future proof and is even $200 cheaper. The Onkyo TX NR838. It appears to put out similar quality sound with slightly higher power output. It also has a clean 4k passthrough and a few other functional features the NAD does not have. I am looking to hear from anyone who might have a better suggestion for a receiver or can compare the two of these for me so I know I am making the right choice. $800 - $1000 range is where we are at here and we hope to have something that is durable, has excellent audio, and solid video. 4k Would be a huge plus. The ethernet, Wifi, and other misc internet services are not important to us. If there is a better sub for this question then let me know. Thanks for reading!
