I'm a plumber and I know absolutely nothing about woodworking. At all. So, sorry in advance for my woodworking ignorance. I also don't have any tools to cut wood so I'm hoping that whatever I get, I can have the wonderful home depot employees cut for me when I purchase it.
I want to buy some wood, stain it, and somehow attach it to a block wall (maybe sitting an inch or so off of the block wall?). The block wall is hollow. If I have to I can buy a circular saw but I'm trying to do this for as cheap as possible, so I'm hoping I can get HD/Lowes to cut it for me (also so the wood fits in the car).
It's going to be approximately 5' square.
I'm going to attach the wood to the block wall and then probably attach some type of wire mesh (cow panel maybe?) to the wood for my plants to climb up.
I would love for the wood to look like the long horizontal pieces in this picture
And here is the kind of block wall I'm working with (random internet picture but pretty damn accurate)
Sooo.. please help. Is there a certain type of wood I need to buy that works better outdoors? What stain works best? Any idea approximately what color stain was used in that photo? What's the best way to attach it to the wall? Any input would be extremely appreciated.
Thank you!
