Incredible find on the curb last night in need of a little restoration. Any ideas on how to remove the stains on the surface? I'm afraid to sand because it may be veneer.

I'd also like to repair the small bits of damage on the front. I've only had experience using wood filler and paint/stain, but I don't want to apply a stain here since the piece is so nice. Any suggestions on how to do that (if it's even possible) would be greatly appreciated.
