How to make a raised floor!

Im looking to create a raised floor (think a stage) within half of a room. the area is about 3m x 3m but its not a square.

I don't know what the best way to do this is as I want it be raised by about 50cm so if I was to make a wooden frame and lie it flat it wouldn't have enough height but I also don't want to have to create 4 or 5 frames and lie them on top of each other as I think thats just a waste of wood. Any answers are appreciated as long as it ends up sturdy I don't mind making it with any method/ materials. The floor itself will just be plywood going on top of what is holding it up underneath. The current floor is also just standard carpeted wood if that is important.
