As the title states, can I measure VO2max in human subjects using an O2 analyzer (measures O2 concentration in air/gas sample) and a spirometry setup (provides lung volumes)?
I was thinking of having the subjects exercise on a stationary bike while I first used the O2 analyzer to measure the conc. of O2 in inhaled and exhaled air.
Then, using the spirometry hardware, I can measure the volume of inhaled and exhaled air. Multiplying both volumes with the respective O2 concentrations and then obtaining the difference should give me the VO2max.
Is this a reliable way to get values of VO2max?
