The iPhone doesn't have the 5 minute 4K video limit that Android phones have, and that's huge.
I haven't seen anyone mention this yet. The Android phones (G3, S5, S6, Nexus) all are constrained to a 5 minute limit for recording in 4K. I can't find any solid facts on why, but people are speculating that it's due to them not having a hardware encoder, so it's done with software and is causing overheating. I can confirm, because on my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, when I record in 4K, it shows <elapsed> / 5:00.
But the iPhone? I recorded a 37 minute 4K video a couple days ago with zero issues.
And before anyone states that 4K is stupid, I agree. But there's still a good reason to record in 4K: to downsample to 1080p. 4K downsampled to 1080p will look significantly better than video that was recorded IN 1080p to begin with. That's a big deal for youtubers, bloggers, etc who can't afford an expensive camera. Also, the 6s 4K video downsampled to 1080p looks better than a lot of DSLR's 1080p videos. Proof? http://ift.tt/1FGPg1j

Most cost effective way to reduce noise, working from above
Hello,
We are about to be embarking on a renovation of the upstairs space in our home. Something high on our list is to improve the sound travel to the downstairs basement unit. We are going to be replacing our floors upstairs so what is the most cost effective way to do the soundproofing with access from above? So no resilient channel, is roxul worth it or maybe just two layers of subfloor with green glue?
All suggestions welcome!

Kitchen table/island (x-post r/woodworking)
My kitchen needed some more counter space so I thought I would build something with cheap wood. Started with two 2x10s from home depot, and with a lot of sweat and a little blood ended up with something functional and pretty good looking. Learned a ton in the process. Hope to improve my joinery skills, first time doing mortise and tenon joints. They came out sloppy but functional. I hope to add some shelves soon. Take a look! Sorry the albums all backwards, uploading via mobile didn't go so well.
Feel free to ask any questions and I'll do my best to answer!

Pros and cons of different brush types?
Hi!
Sorry for the crap title, couldn't really come up with a better one. I am trying to clean some old metal pieces (removing gunky old paint) and was looking to buy a brush that I can put in my drill. I came across two different designs, namely the flat style and the cup style (links to german amazon, but the pic should say it all). My main questions are:
- What are the pros/cons of those two? and
- For what applications are they well suited/for which not so much?
Any help appreciated :)
Cheers,
YMK

I was thinking using one of those big five gallon water containers or something, any ideas help thx.

Tip: You can drag and drop music straight onto your iPhone, and you can do this over WiFi, no wires necessary. (and no 3rd party apps required)
This is probably not new news for hardcore Apple fans, but for itunes haters and Android people who would like to switch to iOS but hate itunes, this might make your day. (or not, who knows)
You still have to use itunes, but if you check the box that says "manually manage music", you can just drag and drop music from your computer onto the itunes window and it'll immediately move them onto your phone.
But wait! There's more! There's another checkbox that mentions wifi. If you check that box, your phone doesn't even have to be in the same room as you so long as its on the same wifi. You can literally drag and drop, and beam the music onto your phone while it's in a completely different room. Times have changed.
Back in the day, you had to manually import music to itunes, then select your phone, then music column, then check the songs/artists/albums that you want, then click sync. It was a pain. (and still sort-of is) But now, for the people who don't need playlists and organization can just drag and drop mp3's straight onto the itunes windows.
I didn't realize itunes was more flexible until recently because I've been utilizing streaming music, so I figured I'd share this with the rest of the world. I know a lot of people hate itunes with a passion, so this might change things for some of those people. Oh, and it still doesn't like FLACs. As an audiophile, this makes me a little sad, but then again, it's coming out of a headphone jack into cheap headphones, or via crap quality bluetooth audio to my car, so the FLACs wouldn't make any difference anyway.
Hopefully this will be helpful to at least one person. I hated itunes enough that I just started using pandora/spotify. I got asked by a coworker about how you put music on your phone, and I did some reading since it has been a while, and came to find that it's much easier now if you want to bypass importing the music to itunes.

Here is my original link I asked for help and ideas on how to build a gate for an unusual shaped doorway. I have 2 dogs that are a bit destructive when we are not home and I needed them to be kept out of the living room, but have free range of the rest of the house. We took some of your ideas and created "doors" that lock together but are also 100% completely removable (for when company is over).
Here is the finished product and I wanted to thank everyone for the help and ideas. We had to forgo the idea of it being "see through" to compensate for the strength of the door. The only thing left for us to do is paint it!
Thanks everyone!

I had an idea for something I'm calling "Smart Pants"
Ok so the idea is that Pant manufacturers sew a flexible/durable RFID chip into the pockets of your pants. Then you the person with the smart phone downloads an app from the pant company. The app tells your phone to lock and ignore any push of any surface buttons while it can detect the RFID chip. This way when you put your phone in your pocket it wont but dial anyone, unlock and launch apps, or sit on the combination lock screen and make sounds. What do you guys think? we can call it "Smart Pants". The RFID tags wouldn't cost more then a few cents per pair of pants. Comments? Questions?

Post and Rail Fence Gap Next To House?
So I installed a post and rail fence this past weekend. However at one of the last runs I encountered a problem. The plan was to tie the fence into the house by installing a post directly next to my chimney. My chimney extends from my house about 2 feet and we installed the post so that the rear edge of the post lined up with the rear edge of the chimney. Unfortunately for me, when we dug by the house, the foundation/chimney bumped out about 16 inches from the above ground area. I need to extend some of the wire mesh from the chimney to the post to cover the gap.
What is the best way to attach wire mesh fencing to a chimney? I am hesitant to screw into the brick too much and cause a crack. I was thinking maybe some sort of adhesive anchor system?

Butcher block counter top.
My friend ask for my help to build a butcher block since I have access to a lot of tools and know how to use them. We did the whole ting in cherry wood and the racking come from Ikea. The whole build cost him around 800$ (Cherry wood is expensive!!) and it took us about 2 weeks working a couple hours every 2 days.
I have worked a couple of summer as a carpenter but this was my first time attempting to build something more delicate and I'm very happy about the result and so is my friend.

Quick question about the Asus Eee Note EA800
I know is an old device, but it seems to have great response to writing. Is it still worth getting? Is there something comparable? Anything better?
I'm looking for something that could replace pen and paper in the classroom.
Thanks in advance

Help needed - Building a Wooden Wedding Arch
Hello! I am hoping someone that has some knowledge about wood could help my identify what kind of wood is used in this Wooden Arch
I am getting married in a year and wanted to build that exact or close as possible to that wooden arch. I am hoping it's something that I can do in my spare time collecting the wood if its some kind that common to find where I live in Canada!

What material to use for this (high tensile strength?)
I am very interested in this kind of design. I am fairly confident I could make a structurally sound base but am wondering what materials could be recommended for the top. Also is high tensile strength in materials what I'm looking for here? The image says 'black glass top.' Ideally it would be something I could simply order as a sheet with minimal finishing required. Fiberglass?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
