Making a cuttingboard for fruits.

My Girlfriend really hates it, when there is any scent of garlic or onions left on the cuttingboard which she uses to cut her fruits for breakfast. So my idea is to buy her a cuttingboard and woodburn something on it to make sure noone uses it to cut anything but fruits on this board. My questions are, what kind of wood do you recommend, and how do I need to "finish" the board to "seal" it and make the woodburning last?
