How to install the resistor?

I am making a cheap static mat. I need to install a 1MOhm resistor in the line that plugs into the grounded outlet. How do I install this resistor in to this line? The resistor is tiny and I am using 2 strands of 16 AWG speaker wire to the ground prong. A little help please?
