Some months ago I discovered a crack in the brick facade of my home. Immediately next to it was a bush with a trunk the size of my manly muscular thigh. I figured its root system was the culprit. I promptly cut it down and stuck some herbicide in it.
Flash forward to now, and the crack has only gotten worse:
Started digging, and found the trunk goes deeper.. in the direction of my home. At this point, I feel like I'm out of my depth. Some specific questions/comments:
- Fire codes in my area will not allow for burning the stump. I wouldn't want to anyway due to its proximity to my home.
- If it were to be yanked out with a chain, am I correct in assuming this risks severe damage to my home?
- If I were to cut the stump down as low as I could, are chances good that the root system would stop growing?
- Big question:
Who/what service would be best to consult with on this? I'm not a particularly handy guy and don't want to get screwed.
I would appreciate any and all help I can get.
