Cutting fridge/freezer power cable and making it shorter? is it safe?

As the title states. The cable got damaged so I cut the length back and remade the plug, is it safe to use it this way.

I heard using an extension lead is unsafe as it cant carry the same voltage but is a shorter main power lead OK?
