Garage Dirt Flooring - simplest floor conversion?

The Structure: My buddy just bought a place with an un-attached garage. It originally had a single garage door that fell off, and there are 2 windows that are boarded up. Size wise - I'd call it a 1.5 car garage. The floor is somewhat uneven, and just seems to be dirt. The wall are made of cinder blocks, and the roof seems solid. Power has already been ran and is hot.

The Dream: Have a place to store and play some musical instruments. A jam space!

The Big Question: What should he do about the floor? With lots of other house projects on the list, plenty of other things take priority. I would think eventually, he'd want to hire someone to pour a concrete floor. (Anyone know how much that'd cost?)

Obviously, a few other things need to be remedied like the giant hole where there was once a garage door and adding a window AC unit. (TN summers are hot and humid)

I wondered if after a door and AC unit, if a few cheap rugs might buy him some time. The dirt is actually great acoustically, as it absorbs a lot of sound that is reflected by the cinder block walls. The big concern would be damage caused to gear from humidity and temperature change.

Thanks for any comments or suggestions!
