Hey guys quick question on restoring a table.

My moms got a really solid/really big wooden table and she's been throwing around the idea of paying someone to come in and refinish it or w/e. She finally called someone and the person quoted her $500. The cost of table was $1,600. I told her that paying nearly 1/3 the cost of the table just to restore it seems expensive and the damage to the table is pretty minimal and could prolly be restored on our own. I'm thinking about doing it for her. However, do you guys/gals think it's possible for an amateur with very little woodworking experience to attempt this on his own? The table only has some really small dents in it from dice from playing yahtzee over the years. The coloring in same areas has also started to fade. And sorry no pictures rn but I can get some later. If any of you guys have any advice on how to restore what I've briefly described please let me know. Would be much appreciated.
