Not in general. Just in my specific case.
I am renovating the kitchen and wanted to add an accent light above the kitchen table. Paying an electrician to run electric isn't in the budget, so my plan was to use a plug in pendant light similar to this one:
I couldn't find a prefab plug in pendant light it a style I wanted, so I decided to buy the one that matches and a 2-prong cord so I could make my own.
I've gotten everything and was ready to put it together when I noticed the pendant lamp has a ground. Under normal circumstances I'd be running the ground to the electrical box, but I'm not using a box/hardwiring it into my house electric.
Sorry for the long story, but is it safe to ignore that ground? Every lamp I've ever used uses a 2-prong plug, so I should be able to here, right? If not, where should that ground be going?
Thanks in advance for any help. I want to make sure I'm safe, and electrical scares me.
