Removing Hardood floors and reusing boards?

Hey /r/DIY,

I recently bought my first home and have been working away on it. We removed a load bearing wall between the living room and family room and planned to join the hardwoods together. The only problem is that they are 1/4" off in height.

So, would it be worth it to rip up, carefully, the living room hardwoods, replace the subfloor, and reinstall the existing hardwoods?

Has anyone here done this before?
