Hello again, gadget lovers!
The mod team have been discussing the rules again and we've got some news for you.
On a trial basis, we are going to allow posts about gadgets currently undergoing crowdfunding campaigns.
This is subject to a few conditions which I'll lay out below, but first let me explain why we've made this decision. This is a pretty big change for /r/gadgets, all active crowdfunding has been banned from the subreddit for some time to prevent us from being swamped by scams and unfulfilled campaigns. With the success of the white list, we've already been able to relax several of the rules regarding rumours and pre-orders, so the next natural step was to assess whether the crowd funding rule was still needed.
We're not sure what the long term impact of this change will be, which is why this is a trial. Once we've been able to see how the subreddit is affected, we'll make a decision on whether to make it permanent. As the subscribers, your opinions are incredibly valuable. We're very keen to hear what your thoughts are on this, please send us modmails with your feedback so that we can take community feeling into account.
The Conditions
Posts about gadgets subject to active crowd funding campaigns are subject to the following conditions:
- The article must be from a white listed source
- The article must be about the gadget, not the company, its business practices, or delivery dates etc.
- The submitter must not be affiliated with the campaign, company or website
The change is effective immediately and there will be mods available to answer any questions you have.
We will also be discontinuing the Crowd Funded Fridays Superthread for the duration of this trial.
That's it, folks.
I do enjoy our little chats.
