Replacing a cooker extractor hood - do i need an extraction unit?

Hi, my cooker extractor hood is kaput. The motor has blown in it. I called an electrician who told me that it's not possible to just replace the motor, you have to buy a whole new unit. So this is what I currently have front view side view and I've found one to replace it with which has the same curved canopy and same dimensions (90cm).

Whatever website I look at always mentions buying 'extraction kits' to go along with the new hood, these are the vents that take the steam/smoke outside. If my current unit already has one view 1 and view 2, do I still have to get a new extraction kit and if so does it have to be the same dimensions as the one I would potentially be replacing? I would have though I could keep the same one that's already there but maybe I'm wrong
