[Request] Any tips for a creative way to refurbish a coffee table?

I have a cheap coffee table from Ikea. Black, with a shelf underneath. Nothing special at all. But it's pretty banged up and scratched. So since it's black, the undercoat really shows. Any cheap/easy and cool tips to refurbish it? Besides simple sanding and repainting? I'm looking for something creative. Thanks!
