Need help with Repairing desk

Hi,

I had a desk built for me a couple of months ago and struggling to come up with a good idea to brace the desk to each other. When pressure is placed by the area where the two desks meet, you feel the weakness.

To brace the two desks together, there is a small piece of wood...something like 1/16 holding it together. It is coming apart and I need to strengthen the area. http://ift.tt/1BhW6Ez

I tried to reach out to the contractor who built it, but is unavailable. I figure it couldn't be hard to fix with the help from you!

My struggles: Not sure the right approach to brace, and since it is going into 1/4" MDF, I'm nervous that doing it wrong can put holes right through the top of the desk.
