Wood burning stove causing creosote drip, any advice?

We have a wood burner in our house, and a bit of a problem with it. One of the upstairs bedrooms has creosote leak or drip, probably because the pointing is weak there. The chimney isn't lined, but apparently it will cost a bomb to line it. Also we'd rather not tear into the wall to repoint the brickwork. How can we fix this problem, and should we get it lined anyway? Thanks
