Hi DIY. We are getting ready to undertake our first big project:building a clapboard A-frame style shed with a tile roof. It has to be this specific style to fit within the restrictions in our village. We are complete beginners other than some basic around the house DIY.
We have done some research online and due to the high winds our area can experience we are thinking the best bet would be a sunk-pole shed, with the four corner supports being sunk in concrete and the frame built around them. The floor will be deep gravel as we will be using it as a Mews for our goshawk. (we are falconers). We were thinking of double row of bricks at the bottom as well.
The sides will be clapboard treated and painted wood, and the roof terracotta tiles that match our home.
We think we can do most of it ourselves if we have a really clear step by step guide. We are most nervous about framing out the roof and getting the angles right. We have access to a number of good tools with an old farmer friend of ours.
Suggestions? Is sunk pole supports a good idea? Good resources for clear, detailed plans that guides beginners? Anything we could buy needs to be found in Europe (Netherlands preferably) so some of the roof kits I've seen are out of the question.
Thanks in advance.
