Hi DIY!
I'm a saxophone player and I like listening to non-traditional jazz music. One of my favorite artists is a band called Moon Hooch. For a few of their songs they sick a traffic cone in their tenor in order to drive it down an octave and have a need dubstep-like effect. Example: http://ift.tt/1y2hXBt
Now as a fan, I would not only like to play that song, but also make more songs using the cone-in-sax sounds. I was hoping someone here could help me out with building the cone necessary.
Here's an image of Moon Hooch's Cone: http://ift.tt/17UhrcX
So I know that this, http://ift.tt/17UhrcZ , is the one that they use. At least, it's similar enough for this purpose anyway.
So I guess my main questions would be (and please forgive me, I was never big on my father's hardware projects as a teenager so I never learned how to do about a lot of the basics):
What kind of saw to use to cut the cone
How to figure out how much was cut off the Moon Hooch cone (as any massive variation will throw off the pitch)
What the material is at the top of the cone (as it needs to seal inside of the sax bell so air doesn't escape) and how to attach it to the cone itself.
Thanks for all your help!
