Situation: I live on a hill where the front yard is at the highest point and the backyard is the lowest. Since I have moved in, my backyard has had a wet spot right in the middle of the yard. It is wet even when it hasn't rained for days. Months ago, I replaced my watermain because it had sprung a small leak and it still didn't fix the situation in the back yard. None of the gutter drains go to the spot in the middle of the backyard and I am now clueless on what to do and how to troubleshoot the backyard. I was thinking about digging my own french drain, but does that dry out wet spots?
EDIT: I have a two story porch with tall wooden posts and was also concerned with long term effects with having a muddy yard where the posts are.
