So I'm planning on making a work surface for leather work and other small projects. I'll be making it out of steel pipe and this ikea solid table top - http://ift.tt/1vjL2Yh which is 1 1/8" thick.
The question is whether I should add any additional bracing to the table top since I will be doing some hammering/pounding on it. The table will be 2x4' with the pipes attaching to it at 4 points using floor flanges near the corners. That leaves about 36/37" of unsupported space in the center of the table. I just want to make sure a stress fracture or something won't develop in the center of the table. Or if anyone's knows a better top option I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks for the help!
