Way to automatically change audio source?

I have two audio devices (an iPod and an airport express) which I'd like to be able to automatically switch between. Ideally when sound is coming out of the airport express, the iPod would mute, and then come back on when no audio is being received, however I can manually turn the iPod back on/unmute; I just want it to turn off automatically.

I originally was going to use AirPlay with the Airport Express (have iPod streaming to it), however if you try to stream another device (say my iPhone), it won't work/kick off the iPod.

Any ideas?
