Making a metal necktie: How can I flexibly articulate pieces of sheet metal edge to edge?

My objective: To create a (clip-on) necktie out of 28 gauge (or thinner if I can find it) steel. My plan so far is to cut out the overall shape with tin snips, slice that into one-inch-ish segments and smooth the edges with a deburring tool.

Where I'm stuck is how to connect the segments edge to edge so the whole assembly can flex and bend sort of like a real tie. For mockup purposes I am considering backing the thing with duct tape. What I am considering for the actual run is making two holes near each joining edge (without creating a jagged mess) and creating small wire loops to link them together. What I don't know is what kind of tools or wire would be needed for that operation. I've never worked with metal before and apparently I don't know the terminology well enough to Google effectively. Ideas for alternative approaches (tiny hinges?) would also be welcome.
