Dear all, I have a single pole switch in a walk-in closet that simultaneously controls three ceiling lights. I want to replace that with a switch/outlet combo (outlet always on) so that I can also plug in an iron.
I have watched several YouTube videos, but none has helped me figure out what to do with my specific wiring configuration. Please see the first comment below for pictures of the box, the device, its installation diagram, and a schematic of the situation.
My questions are: 1) why are there three lines in the box instead of two? 2) which of the three should I assume goes to the ceiling lights? 3) to wire the combo, do I need to remove the tab and create separate hot lines attached to the black screws? 4) Why can't I just take a single hot line and attach it to the outlet (lower) black screw while leaving the tab in place?
