Building a PC case, few.. newbie questions.

Currently with a full tower and it's just too large, so deciding to build my own. Will probably take a good few months to plan it all and I have never touched DIY, or anything of the sort so prepare..

Questions:

• I'm looking for mesh to filter the front fans, how on earth does the mesh/grill "stick" to the metal in pc cases? That's been my biggest barrier. It must be simple. (the thin, plastic wire type fan filter stuff)
• Is there any mesh that can be screwed in/screwed through a metal sheet? To make my job a hell of a lot easier.

I can give more info you need it, I know the above may seem pretty silly but it's what's in my head atm.
