I have built two nightstands out of pine plywood and I'm a little lost on how to stain it. I started staining it and realized I'd like to have a two tone look so I went out and bought an antique white stain. Now my intention was to have that distressed/antique look for the areas that are white but after researching for days and trying some techniques I'm at a lost of what to do as my test pieces are not giving the look I want. Every surface on my nightstand is flat except the edges of course and so far I'm thinking that is why I'm not seeing any real affect of sanding some areas and then painting with a darker stain and wiping it off. The white I used is a Varathane stain called antique white, should I be using a paint/lacquer to see more of an effect? or is it possibly the method I used?
