How to play music through car speakers that has no aux cord?

I do not want to take anything apart to install an aux cord in the car, the car can't play mp3 files so can only make CDs that hold 20 songs per CD. I have heard about the FM transmitter, but is the concept really just: go to empty frequency, set same on radio, and it plays music through the car speakers?

Currently using mobile speaker to connect to iPod via Bluetooth to listen to music, but does not have the same feel/sound...
