Crappy futon from Ikea, still on it's original slats from purchase about 4 years ago. Needless to say, most of them are broken, have been glued and switched around, etc. So I figure it's probably about time for them to be replaced... And that got me wondering what kind of wood should I be using (can withstand a fair amount of weight, but is kind to my wallet) and if I should replace the plastic clips with something more durable and if so what?
