Didn't recess the plugs.. Way to fix?

Hey DIY.. I didn't realize I was supposed to have the outlets under the back splash brick...

The thing is.. The brick is uneven so a plate over top looks like this.. And over hangs. http://imgur.com/qO2UaES

I've been at it with an air chisle and a diamond dremel for hours with little results and don't want to make it worse... Is there any last option before I just "build it out" with caulk.. Or rip the back splash back out and do it again?
