As the title states my wife and I just moved into our first house in Hamtramck Michigan recently and one of the first things I'm going to have to do that I have little to no experience with is replacing the humidifier on our furnace. I'm looking at a Honeywell that looks VERY similar to what is already installed.
I would wager to guess that either the humidistat, the wiring between the humidistat and the motor, or the motor itself is faulty but considering the condition it is in I'm just going to replace the whole thing. Since there's already a unit there, I assume I can get a similar unit and pretty simply put it where the old one was.
I just have a few questions. I've bolded the actual questions below.
The one installed now doesn't work, and god only knows how long it hasn't worked for. What sort of things should I look out for as far as mold or anything like that goes. I'm not sure if there was ever standing water in it but there's calcification on the pad around the drum so I assume it sat for quite a while. I don't see any signs of mold anywhere in the house or in any of the easy to see/reach parts of the duct work (including the duct attached to the humidifier.
The humidifier I'm looking at (HE120 Bypass Drum) plugs into an outlet for power. The one installed now is somehow wired into a circuit board in the actual furnace with some sort of transformer. How hard will it be to disconnect the current humidifier from the furnace circuit board?
Another "problem" I've noticed with it is that the water only comes out as a slow drip when I open the saddle valve. Should I replace the saddle valve? Could it be sediment inside the line from the valve to the unit? If so how can I test it or should I just buy some new copper tube to go with the new valve?
I don't really want to take anything apart until it's time to actually replace this thing (next week) but if you want general pictures I can take some if they'll help.
