First DIY project, building storage into tiny room, advice sought
After a decade of renting I recently bought a flat; out of nowhere feelings for it appeared.
I've only done very basic DIY & decorating before, and want to use the small (119 x 126 cm) storage room we have as my practice project.
The Plan
- get plumber to fix mess of pipes (we think this room used to have the boiler), I've just boxed out where these are in the model
- rip out skirting board and existing boxing (or adjust if possible) and box new piping
- remove wallpaper that is hanging off of the back wall, probably because it is bare render, not plasterboard
- prepare back wall for decorating
- build storage unit; I have some strange fascination with the bottom layer of shelves possibly being used as a desk or workbench which I'd like to keep clear of supports to allow rotation side-to-side when sitting and this made the supports more complicated
- use LED strips to under-light the shelves
Before Pictures
SketchUp
Concept and proposed support structure. I'm planning to use solid wood, sanded and painted before assembly.
Questions
- Anything obviously wrong with my design?
- Do we need to plaster the rear wall, or is it possible to apply paper to render?
- Any ideas for improvements/extras?
Thanks kindly.

DIY Kitchen Table (First Time Project)
My girlfriend had the great idea that we should make our own kitchen table. She sourced an old tile-top table for $20 on CL, and then we bought some pine wood at Home Depot for $30 bux. Cut, bonded, filled in gaps, sanded, stained and varnished and voila!
Total time spent on this project was probably only about 6-8 hours, but that spanned across 2 months because of....life.

[Request] Make a quarter into a bracelet.
I laser etched a small poem into a quarter and I want to make it into a bracelet for my girlfriend. I don't want it to just be a charm on the bracelet. The only way I can think of doing it is to drill a hole in each side and run a chain over one side and under the other, but that would cause the quarter to flip not to stay on the engraved side.

I recently purchased an Otium One smartwatch for extremely cheap ($15) but the native software is useless. Does anybody have any idea how to install android wear on this watch, or if it is even possible to do that? I found a download for the software online, but I just don't know how to get it to the watch.

Can I pour epoxy over asbestos tile to encapsulate and level?
I am about to buy a house built during the post-war era (Late 1940s) that has some asbestos tiles in the basement. These are the ugly 8"x8" or 9"x9" tiles you see in some homes from the 40s and 50s in the US. I am planning on covering the tiles up rather than attempting to remove them as that comes with a whole slew of extra work and precautions. From what I understand asbestos is relatively safe unless it is crumbling or disturbed. Some of these tiles are cracked.
My initial plan was to install a moisture barrier, padding and laminate over the tiles but like I mentioned I have noticed some of them are cracked and I don't want this to become an issue for the laminate later on.
My new plan is to pour a self leveling epoxy over the asbestos tile which I believe has the added benefit of sealing it in and leveling the cracks. Has anyone done something similar before and would this be considering encapsulating the asbestos?
I feel like I could add laminate later on, but an epoxy floor for the basement might look fine for a while.

Brick Patio for sealing lead contaminated soil question
Hey everyone. I'm a homeowner in an urban area. I have a small 1-year-old and live in a 100-year old home. I recently tested my soil and it has high lead levels. My back yard level tested at an average of 600ppm. About half of my backyard has bricks set directly in the soil and the other half is bare soil- also lots of old growth trees (so removing soil with all those roots really isn't an option). I've done a ton of research both online and with environmental specialists and have decided that part of my plan will be to take up all those bricks (870 sq feet) and re-install them in a "real" brick patio (gravel base, landscaping fabric, sand, brick, polymetric sand). I don't really think with all the roots and the contaminated soil, that it's a good idea to dig down the recommended 8 inches. I don't want to mess too much with the soil and don't have a good place to easily get rid of it. I'm planning on just placing the 4in of base gravel directly on top of the existing soil level. I will use an edging on top of that to keep the bricks in place. My question is this: Will my patio last? I live in Central Arkansas so not a lot of heavy freezes; maybe 2-3 max per winter if it's a cold winter.

Living on the subfloor of a mobile home
My wife and I just bought a mobile home a few weeks ago. The previous owners got stains all over the carpet and it's beyond being able to be cleaned.
My parents had a mobile home and they ripped out all the carpet and did a paper bag floor. It looks good, but they said it was a HUGE pain in the ass and took a lot of time to set up.
My question: I'm not too worried about looks, just functionality, so if I were to rip up all the carpet and stain and seal the plywood subfloor, would it be safe to live on?
We've looked at linoleum and every other type of hardwood and laminate flooring, but it's so expensive (2300 square foot home). Also, we have animals, so we want to get rid of carpet altogether anyway.
