Help! Total newbie here.

Okay so the girlfriend and I should have a brand spanking new house soon (well new to us, coming from condo, and it's in renovated new shape). Very excited. It's got a nice new looking basement, but not finished at all. I have an interest in doing this.

Am I getting in over my head potentially wanting to (for the most part) work on this with no experience doing anything like this, or is it possible to DIY it as a first-timer. Just some background I've worked in restaurants and in IT, but I have no experience with building things and working with wood and power tools, etc... I'm not a manly man in those areas. Anyways where do I begin with all this? I don't even know how I would plot out what to do.

I'd rather do it myself because I don't wanna pay some contractor and find out they cut corners here and there, or didn't do something to code, and pay for a huge hassle. I'm good at researching my own stuff as long as I know where to look, however there just doesn't seem to be much out there on this subject other than "cut this thing at a 45 degree angle" but no general guide of you should setup a basement like this, this is how you measure it out smartly. None that I can see anyways, I'm hoping I can be pointed in the right direction. A lot of the guides here seem non-descript or just show-offs (which is fine, it's interesting to me), or for people that seem to know what they are doing already (like the basement reworks holy crap how do you know how to do that without being a pro?).

tldr; I'm afraid I'm going to totally suck at DIY because I'm new to it and I wanna get into it, where's a good place to start working with wood, floors, and power tools? Guides?
