My grandfather was a DIY genious. He passed away recently. We believe he's hid a very large amount of money in his house. Any ideas on how to look for them?

So ok this is not a DIY question BUT please hear me out. I appeal to you guys for help because my grandfather was an awesome DIY person through and through. He spent his last days in his workshop, working.. He was a very technically gifted man. He was famous because he could repair almost anything, people would come to him with some kind of an obscure electric motor that's too old and complicated that no one can repair but he'd figure it out in two days and be able to repair it.

Three months ago he suffered a very bad stroke which left him in a bad condition unable to speak or write. He couldn't communicate with us. We didn't think about it at the time but he didn't trust banks and store/hid most of his money at home, hidden somehow. We think there is at least 150k USD hidden somewhere but we can't find it. He or we never spoke about it because we didn't think he would go so soon. He was a crazy healthy albeit old man.

We have gone through all the banks in our region, found his all accounts. We looked everywhere in his appartment, literally looked at all the places a normal person could think of. We were able to find a significant sum on top of a wardrobe but we are sure this isn't all. We think this is just his "easy access" cash, in case of emergency or if he got robbed so the robbers would stop looking. We know there is much, much money hidden out there because of his earnings the last 20 years. We also know that it's all in USD and that he bills are around 10-15 year old.

We don't want to dismantle his apartment. We are also afraid to sell or rent it out because we think someone else would find it. We just don't want his hard earned money to just disappear. He dreamed of giving the money to his grand-grandchildren so they can get the best education possible (he financed our college funds as well).

So my question is - do you guys have any idea where or how we should look? Is there a scanner of some sort? Is there a way to look for signs? Should we just destroy everything, piece by piece and hope to find something? Any ideas would be very helpful.
