Can't Figure out How to Remove Recessed Light Bulbs - Help
Hello-
These seems so stupid, but in my bathroom I have these recessed lightbulbs and I can't get them out of the socket. There seems to be a piece of glass between the bulb and my hand and I can't get the glass out to then remove the bulb.

Best Tape and Adhesive for Skin [Help with hearing implant attachment]
I am an ABI user (similar to a cochlear implant). Because I do not have a magnet implanted internally, I need to affix a small metal disc to my scalp, and attach a magnet to that.
Here are some pictures of the metal disc enclosed in a duct tape sticker, and the sticker attached to my scalp. http://ift.tt/1Of6W7G
The metal disc inside is #1 size washer I found on amazon.
I currently use duct tape and gorilla glue to get the best hold. It usually lasts for 3-4 days. I have tried medical tape, with less success.
Do you have recommendations for the best tape and adhesive to use on skin, that will last the longest?

I've been photographing fog a lot this past year. Here's one of my favorites, taken in mid-June in Marin County, California. [OC][2048x1427]

I do swordfighting shows using rapiers and broadswords. so I fixed and repainted my old shield
Hello Reddit! First time posting, but I'm pretty proud of what I did and I felt like sharing with this subreddit which always gives me plenty of ideas.
I do swordfighting shows during medieval faires, and after years of getting beaten up I decided to fix my old shield. I used LIFECOLOR colours, they were pretty good but proved unuseable with an airbrush, so I had to do everything with a normal paintbrushes.
The colours (all acrylic)
- LC72 (satin black)
- a normal, brandless white
- UA545 (Finnish Orange for the foxes)
- UA623 (Sea Blue, for the background)
- LC006 (turtles' paws)
- Citadel's Dark Angel Green (turtles' shells)
- Citadel's Red Blood [BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!] (for the rose in the middle)
- Matte "Raw Terra Di Siena"
The shield (poplar with a layer of linen to protect the wood) was initially fixed applying simple wood putty to the dented areas, then it was all primed with black paint. I then printed the stencil of sorta good A4 sturdy paper and started painting it all.
In case anyone's is interested in the stencils I used: LINK

Doesn't everyone hate that after 5 minutes on your phone smudges are everywhere? Imagine oil absorbing glass. You touch it, the glass absorbs it and it is gone. Of course I do not know how it would work, but hey it is a good idea. Whatever company does it would make some major $$$. Even better if it was a screen protector that can be placed on any phone.

Thinking about removing the plaster over the chimney in the family room to expose brick... Looking for advice
Hello all, frequent lurker but not often poster in this sub.
Anyway, I have a craftsman style house built in 1896 and am looking to expose the brick where the chimney is. As a background, the chimney is in the center of the house so it's not an exterior wall (my house is wood frame, not brick). I can't figure out how to go about where the brick starts and ends. The brick starts in the basement - there's a large triangular chimney which I think might have been a wood burning furnace at some point (I don't know for sure, I'm not knowledgeable about this). The triangular structure continues up to the first floor where the fireplace is and I'm uncertain how the brick goes up from there.
My fear is tearing off plaster only to reveal wood slats which I'm not too keen on.
Also, I'm wondering if it's better to just keep the plaster up... Would cold air come through the chimney considerably without the plaster?
I've attached some crude drawings and photos of what I'm talking about.

In the process of insulating my garage to make it a usable workshop during Winter, should I fill or somehow insulate the exposed cinder block voids around the perimeter of my garage floor? The blocks only rise about 2 inches above the floating slab.
I'm in the process of insulating my 2x4 studded attached garage, both in the walls and eventually blowing insulation into the attic space. My 2x4 walls rest on a concrete block foundation around the floor of the perimeter and the voids in the blocks are slightly exposed on the inside about 1/4". Is there any benefit to filling in these voids before I put up drywall, potentially covering the voids up? Should I fill or seal them off with great stuff foam? I can't imagine being able to fit anything else down into the blocks, due to the crack being so narrow.
Thanks

[HELP] Lowering the water supply for a sink install
I need to redo this old-school bathroom and need help with how to move the water supply for the sink.
As seen in the pictures, the hot and cold water come out separate and are controlled individually. The supply outs are approximately 102 cm from the ground, and the drain is around 49cm.
I don't necessarily intent to move the drain, but in order to have a sink where the hot and cold water is controlled from one valve, as in most modern washrooms, the supplies would need to meet the back of the sink. As it stands, 102 cm is far to high and I would not be able to install a sink that high.
The wall is concrete behind. Thank you for your input.

Need help in controlling light with a device.
The title may be sorta misleading but i didn't know any other way to put it. I need to attach two light sources (LED or anything else?) to a small toy at the eyes. So the intention is to be able to dim and brighten the light to sorta make a scary toy (for some halloween stuff). It needs to be very simple. The aim is to connect two light sources at the eyes and run the wire on the back of the toy to a device to control the light. Now I don't know what device i need to use to do this. So I need help with this and also if there is any simpler way to do it then lemme know!! Thanks guys!!

Painting tips: When to use primer
I'd like to offer a few tips for DIY painters and when to use primers. I think priming is one of the most misunderstood aspects of painting and maybe this can help settle some of the confusion. I am by no means an expert but I do think I know what I'm talking about. If anyone has some counter points or other tips, please discuss and we can help each other.
In general primers have 2 main functions: promoting adhesion and sealing / stain blocking. Most people think primers are used to cover dark colours when painting light colours. I'll get back to that.
My rule of thumb is to prime anything that hasn't been painted before. Drywall, wood, metal, plastic, etc.
I never use Home depot paint products but I know most people do, I'll post the related home depot products. Also, when going to home depot or lowes, etc, be careful about the information they tell you. They often aren't trained properly.
drywall primer - This is the cheapest of all the primers. I'll use it to prime over new drywall that has been taped and sanded. This primer will seal in the plaster and help you get even coverage with the topcoat. These are sometimes called PVA primers.
Kilz Pro-x http://goo.gl/iOhHt8 and Behr Premius Plus drywall primer & sealer are two options http://goo.gl/I5NhUw
wood primer - bare wood should be primed with a general purpose primer. I have used the PVA to prime poplar trim and it does work, but a primer designed for wood will make the job a little easier. Wood grain tends to rise when its contacted with latex paint. Wood primers will lessen that effect and require less sanding afterwards.
Behr all in one primer http://goo.gl/cz2VGX
adhesion promoters - These primers are more expensive. I'll use these to prime bare metal, plastic, oil paint, varnished wood, melamine, etc. Make sure you scuff glossy surfaces. This will help adhesion as well. If you have an older house your walls might be painted in oil. This is also where you would have to prime your walls. To test if your walls are painted in oil, rub a cotton ball soaked with acetone on the walls. If the paint comes off on the cotton ball, it's latex. If it doesn't come off, it's oil.
Zinsser 123 http://goo.gl/zmI5BG
stain blocking primers - certain stains will come through latex paint no matter how many coats there are. These include cigarette smoke, water stains, grease, knots in wood, crayon, etc. Generally you'd have to use oil based paints to cover stains but there are some that will be covered with latex. For example, Kilz Max claims they cover water stains, but it takes multiple coats. It should take one coat with an oil or shellac primer.
Zinsser cover stain http://goo.gl/bOnxIm in oil or Zinsser Bin http://goo.gl/yXIs7h for tougher stains
exterior primer - These are generally used for exterior projects such as priming wooden windows, doors, masonry, shutters etc. Exterior paints are more elastic than interior paints and can handle adverse weather conditions
Behr exterior primer http://goo.gl/5tu8p1
OK so covering up dark colours with light colours. Here's my opinion on this. Primers don't have a lot of pigment in them. They're very watery. This means they won't do a great job covering up old colours. It's probably more effective to spend more money on the paint than to get cheap paint and cheap primer and try to do things in less than 3 coats. I did an experiment with a few different primers, trying to cover a dusty rose with a yellowish off white. I painted vertical stripes, overlapping each one just a bit until I couldn't see the pink underneath. It's hard to see from this image, but the winner was the top row which didn't have primer at all. http://ift.tt/1NbSQT5 Primers aren't more effective at covering up dark colours than paint. HOWEVER, primers are cheaper than paint. So say you know for sure you're going to need 3+ coats to cover. Do the first coats in a TINTED primer, leaving the final 2 coats for the paint. It's better to do 1 coat of $20 primer and 2 coats of $40 paint than 3 coats of $40 paint. Always do 2 coats of paint, no matter what.
One final thing: for the love of god, don't put semi gloss on your walls. It looks horrible and it's not necessary. Again, don't listen to home depot. Just get good eggshell paint and don't worry about it.
TLDR - prime previously unpainted surfaces
