So my question is a bit of an odd one. My office that I renovated myself has two layers of 5/8" drywall with green glue for soundproofing.
My issue is attaching any kind of shelving material is going to be difficult because finding the studs will be hard.
I know toggle bolts are the ideal solution if you can't find studs, but I don't really want to drill a hole big enough for the butterfly to go through, it will kind of ruin the whole sound proof wall thing.
I'm thinking of gluing some 1x2s horizontally with liquid nails and just nailing the shelves to that. My question is will this be strong enough to hold say some books etc?
I've used liquid nails on trim before and I know it's fairly strong and the substrate you bind to (usually the wood) will fail before the glue. I have a feeling that the glue might just pull a layer of drywall off if too much weight is put on the shelves.
