Hi everyone, So this is a wiring oriented question. I am aware that I need a neutral wire in order to connect either of those products listed in the title but my switch boxes only have two wires, a black one and a white one, as well as a ground wire. From research, I know that typically a white wire is a neutral but can't confirm this to be true for me yet. Currently both the white and the black wires are connected to the receptacle but the smart switches, however, have four wires that need to be connected.
My question is basically this: If the white wire is indeed a neutral is it possible to connect both black wires coming from the smart switch to the single black wire from the wall and then the white on white and green to ground? Or do the black wires coming from the switch require their own black wires on the wall?
PS: Reason why I think that my white wire could be a neutral is because I noticed that my ceiling fan connection has 3 wires, including what appears to be a neutral white wire with twist-on wire connector, so I thought if there is a neutral there then maybe there's one on the switch box.
Thanks in advance!
