I am repairing the porch from our early 1900's home. The columns used to be brick that went all the way up to a porch roof but were taken down to the level in the picture back in the 1970's. The brick remaining is pretty rough, but have had it repaired appropriately (Not this picture which is before repair). Plan to cap the columns with a concrete cap like the rails, but the question is the interior of the brick posts, as they are hollow. Brickmason suggested either sand or concrete before capping. I am looking for opinions on which you think would be better on the interior of the brick posts before I cap them off. Thanks!
