Best Gaming Mouse Around/Under $100
I've been using the Razer DeathAdder mouse paired with a Razer Vespula pad for around 2 years. The DeathAdder is a great mouse, but recently, some of the side grip has started to peel off. I know that could easily be fixed with some super glue, but It's given me an excuse to find a new and better mouse. The Vespula pad sometimes doesn't give me enough room to work with, so I am planning on ordering the SteelSeries QcK+ pad, which looks like it would suit my needs well, considering I play mostly FPS games. Now, I was wondering what new mouse I should buy that is around the $100 range, and would pair good with my new SteelSeries QcK+ pad I am planning on getting?

I have done some research of my own and nothing has worked. Ive installed a new thermostat, cleaned the furnace, checked the drainage pipe, and nothing.
I have 2 dogs so I need to get this fixed before it gets to cold and money is tight. I have called an HVAC guy but it's 90$ even if they can't find anything.

Samsung galaxy tab S 10.5 - data plan?
I'm wanting to buy my boyfriend the Samsung galaxy tab S 10.5 because he's been really crushing on it lately and won't admit he wants it (haha) so I thought I would treat him this Christmas to one... however, I have a dilemma and am hoping someone can help me out. I've tried to research h these answers from retailers online and by going but can't really find the answers I'm looking for... He would like this tablet with 3g/4g data (in addition to the wifi capabilities it already has). My problem is that right now amazon has this specific tablet for $349 and best buy for $399. However, neither say much about how I can add data except for just buying it with the data plan...but if I buy it one of their carriers like Sprint or Verizon, I no longer can get that deal and the device is almost at full retail price :( I'm wondering, can I buy the tablet then add the data plan later on it? Thank you in advance!

Didn't recess the plugs.. Way to fix?
Hey DIY.. I didn't realize I was supposed to have the outlets under the back splash brick...
The thing is.. The brick is uneven so a plate over top looks like this.. And over hangs. http://imgur.com/qO2UaES
I've been at it with an air chisle and a diamond dremel for hours with little results and don't want to make it worse... Is there any last option before I just "build it out" with caulk.. Or rip the back splash back out and do it again?
Thanks all.

My thoughts on the 4K / UHD controversy if anyone cares.
First off there is plenty of 4K content available, stop saying there isn't. If you are shopping for a TV today and aren't planning on buying another in a few years then it's a no brainer if you can afford it, buy for the future. If you want the best TV spec wise then it's going to have a 4K panel, deal with it. You can get a flagship 55" Sony 4K TV for ONLY $1500, that's ridiculously cheap considering how great the picture is. I don't care if a TV has 4 or 4 million pixels, just buy the one that looks the best. -End rant.

DIY Holiday Wreath made from wine corks.
*So basically all you need is any size foam ring from a craft store, about 50-100 corks, and a hot glue gun, optional ribbon or pine cones/holiday decorations(holly berry, cinnamon sticks.)
*Using a hot glue gun, attach the corks in an alternating pattern and layers to cover the green foam ring. Attach ribbon on the top of ring. Takes about an hour or so if you use a medium to large foam ring. Make sure you hold corks in place until the glue dries a little.

Can someone help me find tv without motion blur?
I recently purchased/returned a 40" Samsung smart tv (refresh rate 60Hz/120Hz CMR) MODEL UN40H5203 ( http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN40H5203-40-Inch-1080p-Smart/dp/B00K4UIOA4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417383980&sr=8-1&keywords=un40h5203afxzaand ) was very unsatisfied with it due to extreme motion blur. I currently own a 46' Samsung smart tv (refresh rate 60Hz/120Hz CMR) MODEL UN46EH5300 (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN46EH5300-46-Inch-1080p-Model/dp/B0074FGP4Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417384075&sr=8-1&keywords=UN46EH5300)
that has no motion blur. That being said the refresh rate does not matter because I have experienced first hand that 60 Hz/ 120Hz CMR refresh rate is capable of preventing motion blur. I want to get either the UN40H5500 model or the UN40H6203 model, which model will prevent motion blur?

Currently my favorite gadget is the UE Boom. Love it because I can stream music from my phone or laptop to it via bluetooth. But I also have a more classic style sound system and like using that when at the house. Can someone help me learn the difference between a few devices? PS TV, Nexus player and Chromecast?
This items have appeared on some Christmas wish lists in my family and I'm confused as to what they are and ultimately what they can do. Will buying all 3 cancel each other out? Are there large overlapping features that all of them can do?
So far what I do know:
PS TV: Allow streaming from the PS4/VITA to any TV in the house if I'm not mistaken.
Chromecast: Netflix? I'm honestly not sure if that's all it can do.
Nexus Play: Sounds like the PS TV, but for Android stuff.
Can someone perhaps clear some of the confusion up? If there's lots of overlapping features, what would the core use of each device be that the others can't do?
Thanks in advance.

Trouble with a 3-way circuit
I'll try to be as specific as I can here. Thanks to anyone who can give me some info.
My wife wanted to replace a set of 3-way light switches we have in our hallway. When I wired up the new switches they didn't work correctly.
Here is the situation: Power from the box comes into one switch box in the hallway (2 wire line)(may not come directly from box, but is definitely the power supply). From here the Neutral wire on the 3-wire line is connected to the hot wire on the incoming 2-wire line (white to black). The Neutral wire from the 2-wire line is connected to the switch as is the black "hot" wire from the 3-wire line and the red traveler. The second switch is an end of run, all wires are tied to the switch.
Here is what throws me. After taking out the fixture, I see 4 pairs of 2-wire lines tied together (none of these have red travelers). One line has a neutral wire spliced directly to the fixture, the rest of the "white" wires are spliced together along with a "black" hot wire that runs to the fixture. All 4 of the "black" hot wires are spliced together.
So what I am thinking, because I don't see travelers spliced together in the fixture box, is that Power comes to the fixture and is then run to the first 3-way switch, where the neutral wire from the 3-wire is spliced onto the hot wire from the 2 wire run. Then the 3-wire is run to the second switch which is the end run. I have no idea what the other 2 pairs of wires are running to.
My only thought is to undo where the Neutral 3-way wire is spliced to the hot wire and splice the neutrals together while attaching the 2 hot wires to the switch. Or will that royally screw this up?
TL;DR 3-way circuits are confusing as fuck and whoever wired this house in the 60's was a maniac.

I need some advice on making a 2 axis adjustable joystick stand.
I've got two joysticks that I want to mount at either side of my computer chair, but the chair may change in the future. So I'm looking to make something that adjusts from roughly 15 inches to 25 inches in height, and has some tilt functionality.
The problem is, I'm not sure what the best way to accomplish that would be. I was thinking a wood base with a simple threaded pipe and threaded rod for the height adjustment, and for the tilt I think I would need some sort of adjustable bracket but I have no idea what to search for. Here is a basic MS paint image showing the tilt axis in blue, and the height axis in red.

How to correctly use wire tacks to run cable along baseboard?
I've Googled this to no end and haven't found a close-up photo or video of how the tacks are properly supposed to go along the baseboard.
I am using nail tacks to keep Cat5 cable running along the wall, but the tacks/nails barely hold onto the drywall, which makes me wonder of i should be nailing them into the actual wooden baseboard moulding, instead of the wall just (immeidatley) above it?
Only one out of every 5 tacks feels like it has a good grip to thw wall, and it's inconsitent where. (i.e. doesn't seem like it's every 18 inches).
Can anyone offer any advice or is this just the way it is with these things?
PS. I live in a rental, so this is my only option. I am not going to start trying to run cables through walls, and trust me, this will be a step up from the blue masking tape that held the cable across teh floor for the past 4 years :) That is, if i can get the tacks to tack!

CMV: 4K TV is largely a useless technological advancement that's not even close to being ready for widespread adoption by AV geeks and certainly not the average consumer
I hold this opinion for several reasons.
First of all you have to sit too close to a large screen to take full advantage of the increase in resolution over 1080P. This vastly increases your horizontal viewing angle which will negatively impact your ability to see the entire movie or play a console game effectively.
So ok, lets say you really like your nose up to the screen, that presents another problem, most living rooms are not setup to accommodate a TV that big or to sit that closely. There's a reason why 4K TVs are moving into the 85" range, because the average viewing distance of most people barely takes full advantage of most of the 1080p tvs in people's houses right now.
Furthermore, to go to 4K you have to dump your plasma in favor of arguably inferior LCD/LED technology that fails to produce effective black levels for the most part in comparison. The only technology on the horizon that can beat plasma in black levels is OLED.
So we need a 85" OLED 4K TV, and that's going to be pricey and isn't even available yet. And that's saying nothing of the problem of upscaling older content that's likely to stay in 1080p for a considerable period of time. Upscaling that 1080p blu-ray, PS4 (which is already being upscaled to 1080P), or satellite image is going to make the picture blurry and inferior to a true 1:1 1080P image under the exact same conditions.
In conclusion, 4K isn't ready for prime time, and likely won't be for at least another 5-10 years. The proper seating distance for a modern 1080P TV is about 1.6 times the diagonal length of the screen based on my research. I don't know what the comparable distance is exactly for 4K (guessing 1.0-1.1x since it's double the horizontal resolution), but the technical limitations are not going to accommodate most people.
If you're looking to improve your AV experience most people would be vastly better served by getting a decent audio system.

Low budget student in need of a laptop for ~$250
No life stories or anything. No, I cannot "just shell out an extra $50!" or anything like that. IT HAS TO BE $250 OR LESS. PERIOD. END OF STORY! I've tried other forums for advice, but they just keep telling me to shell out extra money that I simply don't have and can't come up with for months, and I need this laptop soon. Like, by the 8th soon.
I have no preferences, just something that can browse the web and run some light weight programs. I have a PS3/4 for gaming, so I don't need one that can run games. A good battery life would help, but it's not needed (it would just be convenient). So please, if you know of any good ones out there, please link them!

Can anyone help me figure out the base size of this light socket?
I have one light fixture in my new house that has this light fixture. I know it's a plug in CFL, but can't seem to find the right bulb. Locally I've only been able to find GX23 base plug in CFL's, but those don't fit. Could someone help me figure out what light bulb I should order? Problem With Xbox One And Headset
Ok so heres the dilemma. I have an old pair of Turtle Beach (X12) headphones for my XBox 360. I am getting a Xbox One soon and wanted to be able to salvage my headphones. Being that said headphones use the traditional white and read audio cords i knew this would be an issue. After doing some investigating I discovered there is a product Microsoft sells called a Stereo Adapter. Now, the adaptor requires me to connect the hadphones to my TV's audio out. However, my TV (Samsung Model #LN32D403E4D) only has audio in and no audio out. Is there a solution to this problem or am I going to need to get new headphones?

Dead creature smells in the car
Hi all, I've got a feeling there is a dead creature(prolly a mouse) in the car. I narrowed it down to the ac/fan pathway as the smell becomes stronger if you turn it on. What would be the best course of action to get rid of the smell? I was thinking of opening up the dashboard or something to find it. Or putting something to remove the odor and hope it goes away as it dries up.

My Logitech g930 headset died. Should I replace it or upgrade?
I do a lot of Skyping and have gotten used to the freedom of being able to wander the apartment while I talk. After a couple years of heavy use, the headset has stopped charging, apparantly due to damage to the microUSB connection (I hoped it just needed a new battery, but no such luck). I liked this headset a lot and would gladly get a new one, but looking online this problem seems fairly common, so I thought I'd ask the hivemind.
So how about it? Should I get a new one or has a better headset along these lines (and at about this pricepoint) come out in the last couple years? Or better yet, does anyone know how to repair the damaged charging port?

DIY Help on Extension Cord Gauge
I'm so sorry if this is not the appropriate sub to post my question but I'm quite in a bit of hurry. The night is approaching fast.
I just recently purchased a Husky LED Worklight. The direction in the manual is to only use this product with an 18 gauge extension cord. What I have is 16 gauge extension cord which is 100 feet long. Based on Home Depot's Guide to Buying Extension cord, I am safe with using the Husky Work Light on a 16 gauge extension cord.
Based on my basic knowledge on amperes, there will be no harm in using a bigger gauge extension cord. But am I right?
Thank you so much for your help.

Is a 120Hz television right for me?
I'm planning on purchasing a tv this Monday or actually just whenever I can and I need to know whether it's worth spending the little bit of extra money for 120Hz versus a 60hz.

Is there a feature phone still worth having?
I used to be very enthusiastic about phones. After the smart phone boom, I feel that there isn't as much variety in the appearence or features as there used to be with feature phones. I like SonyEricsson phones. It was the small things that I liked, like sliding camera covers, dedicated music keys, flip/swivel to open. I guess a lot of those things are meaningless now, but is there a feature phone out there that you think is still worth having for some reason?

insulating dryer vent against condensation
So I am in the process of insulating the concrete basement walls with EPS boards, and will also put some EPS board in the joist area and spray some foam the cracks/joints to stop leaks.
in one corner of the basement I have a dryer vent going through the wall to the outside.
the vent is 4" round galvanized steel, and it is going through the joist area (first through wood then through brick).
the gap between the metal duct and the brick/wood was sealed with expanding foam insulation.
It is now cold out (about -8C/17F) and while doing my insulation work I noticed the first inch or so of the metal duct, when it comes out the wall, is very cold and moisture is condensating on it. this is basically about 10 inches away from the outside.
the vent I have is like this: http://www.homedepot.ca/product/progard-vent-hood-white-4-inch/963996
it basically has some louvers on the outside that close, but it's not exactly leak proof so cold air from the outside is going in the duct and making it cold.
this duct will eventually be in the ceiling/wall, and obviously I don't want moisture on it in winter, that could cause problems long term.
so how an I insulate this pipe so that moisture doesn't condensate on it anymore?
I thought about spraying foam on it on the outside, which would prevent any humidity from touching the duct, but I am concerned about the foam self igniting if the vent gets too hot. is this a valid concern? if so, what about the 10 inches or so inside the wall, which are already filled with foam?
any other ways of insulating this to prevent condensation?
the air inside the pipe will always be cold anyway, so what I think is important is to prevent moisture from touching the duct. so then just putting something like fiberglass batting on it would not do anything, since moisture can still go through, right?

Samsung Galaxy S5 case advice!
I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S5 and I am looking for the best case out there. I previously had an iPhone 5 with a realtree OtterBox and it did a fairly good job keeping the phone from breaking, but it still got scratched all to hell.
I work in construction full time, and one weekend a month I work on M1A1 Abrams tanks for the USMC. I am looking for a descent sized case that is rugged, and strong enough to withstand those tasks. Right now I am between the lifeproof and otterbox defender cases. Does anyone have any better suggestions from personal experience that keeps debris such as dust and dirt out as well as provide protection against shock in the event of a fall?
I would like for this phone to actually last longer than 6 months in the condition that I purchased it in! Any suggest will be seriously considered and appreciated!! (:
Thanks,

Need help/ideas for fixing a gutted shower faucet housing.
So, my shower's kinda terrible. Before I go on, I apologize if I'm not using the right names for things. I do not claim to be a plumber.
A complaint to my landlord about getting the mechanism fixed that switched the water flow from the spigot to the shower resulted in the picture that you are about to see. She had another tenant (a plumber by profession) come by to take a look at it and his repairs are what you see here.
I want to fix the wall so that water doesn't just...fall into my wall. Again, I am not a plumber nor am I an expert in home improvement, but I need to fashion some sort of a semi-permanent solution that keeps water out of the hole, right? Right.
So, suggestions? I have some tools, I'm willing to spend a little bit of money, and I don't want to rebuild the entire wall.

Thanksgiving special - help me plan my deck!
Ok so I have plans to build a deck in my back yard, roughly 30 square metres or a bit over 300 square feet. I'm in Australia, hence non-freedom units.
Here is a mockup of the planned deck, using good ol' Excel.
The deck will roughly be 6 metres by 5 metres. There's wall on three sides, as shown by the darker red. The grey square is a concrete on which the water heater sits. The lighter red is where a door and a sliding door is.
The house is brick veneer so I'm making the deck freestanding rather than attaching it.
Each square represents 100 millimeters by 10 millimeters, aka 100 square cm aka 15.5 square inches.
Black squares represent the deck posts, measuring 100mm by 100mm. These will be sitting on concrete supports going down about a foot.
Yellow represents the bearers aka beams, which will be 140mm by 45mm and as long as necessary. Note that they sit either side of the post.
Green represents joists, which will also be 140mm by 45mm.
Here is a link to the span guide I used when planning it.
Important note: I am putting the joists between the bearers rather than laying them across the top of the bearers. This is because I'm a bit limited for space, vertically-speaking. I've dug out the area of the deck about a foot, and I would like to keep a few inches gap between the bearers and the ground. So this means joists between bearers.
I've installed drainage already, so pooling water shouldn't be a problem.
Which brings me to my next problem: note that on the middle bearer, on the left hand side, there's no post drawn in. This is because there's a bit too much going on in that area re: drainage pipes, so I've left the post out. Can I get away with not putting in a post there? Consider how close the other bearers are, will they be able to bear the weight? The other alternative is that I just sit a concrete footer on the ground, rather than in the ground, and put the post on that.
Also note how close some of the posts are to the house. Is it ok to have them this close? I know it's going to be a pain digging them when they're that close, but that's my problem.
Any thoughts? Comments? Ridicule?

What is the best way to attach this shelf to the wall? And do I need to seal/prime this wood before staining it?
Hey folks! So I've just started building a shelf/jean hanger that I saw here a while ago and I'd like to replicate - This one
So Far I've just cut the wood I need but I'm a bit stuck. How does one go about attaching that kind of a shelf to the wall? Because it's so long I wouldn't be able to just screw it/anchor it into a stud. Should I drill one plank at a time? Honestly at a standstill of what to do. Any advice would be great!
Also, is any kind of sealer necessary before I stain the wood? I'm going to be using the apple cider vinegar/steel wool stain.
Thanks a bunch!

Need Advice: Coffee Table with Cushion Inserts
I have this coffee table that is designed to hold 2 pieces of glass. I decided that instead of glass, I wanted to insert cushions in to make it a coffee table/ottoman combo. My original plan was have a piece of wood board cut to size, add batting and staple fabric to the backside of the wood. The board would insert into where you would place the glass. Then my husband got a great idea of being able to flip the cushion over so we can have a flat service if we ever need just the coffee table version. The cushion would insert into the whole and the board would lay flush with the rest of the table. This is where I am stuck. The foam cushion would have to be smaller than the board in order to be able to fit it inside the table, but I'm not sure of the best way to attach the cushion and fabric.
Any advice and suggestions are appreciated!
Thank you!

How to muffle noise coming from upstairs and a shower.
I am renting and this house is really old and is made up of mostly wood. The ceiling above me is a really thin piece of drywall and some wood. There is a single beam that runs through the middle of the room.
Its so frustrating because the majority of answers seem to be questioning themselves, like dropping a few hundred bucks still might fail to do anything.
On top of that, there's a small shower connected to my room. You can hear the water rushing through it, which annoys the shit out of me because my neighbors take a shower just as im falling asleep. Its just a thin sheet of drywall between me and the shower.
Do you guys have any practical solutions to this? Im definitely willing to drop hours into this project, just so long as it works and wont leave any marks.

Hey guys, so black friday deals are among us, and i have the option to buy a go pro hero 3+ silver combo thing for $300, the lcd combo thing i think. So i dont know if this is worth it over the hero 3 white edition.
I would be using this for mountain/trail biking, skiing, and some water sports. I think that i would just like having 60fps so i can do slow mo footage in montages. Thanks guys

Dear r/gadgets , I am in dire need of a UPS. Any suggestions?
Back story, I've been away from home since April and came home for thanksgiving. After being away for that long I had forgotten a few things about my house, chief among which is the 'power blinks'. What I mean by that is, every once-in-a-while during wind and/or snow, the power will blink off and on at about the speed of a human blinking normally. Just quick enough to make you wonder if it really happened or not. Now before this was no problem, but now I have gotten a PS3 and Emerson TV in my travels it has become a problem. For when it blinks, even as quick as it is, it is enough to reset bother the PlayStation and the TV. Hence, I now need a UPS. I'm looking for one that can power both the console and the TV for at least 15 minutes after a power outage, and to smooth out the blinks. Since I have no clue about the subject, this is why I'm asking y'all far more intelligent beings for assistance. Thank you in advance for your help, and have a happy Thanksgiving weekend wherever you may be.

May I ask what is the best smartwatch I could choose? Planning to get a Sony Xperia Z1 Compact for myself along with it.
Hey there.
So since my Ma can never figure out what she could buy for me for Christmas or birthdays, when she heard about smartwatches she decided to buy one of these. Can you guys recommend me the best ones around and maybe tell me a little about the current popular ones (like, I dunno, Sony's Smartwatch)?
I suppose I like having a nice choice of applications (whatever those might be on a smartwatch, never had a proper look at what is there, but being able to check your e-mail or social sites sounds nice. Managing your music would be godly, as I tend to pick one song from one performer and then one from the other, which has me pull out my phone every 3 minutes), got a preference for square screens and would prefer to have it last for a while, as I try not to purchase a new phone / watch every two years or so.
I heard of the Pebble or Moto 360, what makes those stand out too?
Thanks! <3

Need to find a specific type of lacquer, info and illustration inside
First of all, I'm not a native english speaker and I don't discuss these things very often, so sorry for any mistakes and if there's something unclear, please ask.
I want to learn to do kintsugi, a japanese method of repairing broken ceramics that uses ground metals like gold or silver to decorate the repaired places - it can look for example like this. However, I want to use modern polymers instead of traditional lacquers, because they're expensive as hell, bad for your skin and I really see no reason to use them as long as I'm only doing the kintsugi for myself.
This method uses 3 kinds of lacquers, I know how to substitute 2 of them (I'll try various epoxy glues or superglues, possibly with some filling), but for the last one I have no idea.
Where is it needed/what attributes does it need to have? After gluing two pieces together, you put another superthin layer of glue along the glued crack and sprinkle it with fine metal dust. After it dries, you knock off the dust that didn't stick and you apply the lacquer - this is the one I need. Here is a simple illustration that might help. It should also be food-safe after it dries for obvious reasons, but that's not a deal-breaker.
The problem is - the final layer must be very very thin and it should spread out by itself a bit, because it's impossible to evenly apply it over the whole area of the crack without sloppily putting it on the surrounding areas too. The natural japanese lacquer is applied mostly by putting tiny dabs every few milimeters of the crack, spreading it out just a little bit with a very small brush, waiting a little bit so that it spreads all over the metal dust by itself and then wiping the excess off. After it dries, it can be polished. This is the behavior I'm looking for, but in some lacquer that's cheaper and can be bought in Europe or USA. I have no idea what to look for or where to ask, so if you have some tips where to go next, I appreciate those too.

Need help with an obstacle course
My high school is having an event with the prize being attained by completing an obstacle course. Normally, we use classroom desks, skipping ropes, and other simple items. They're good, but they aren't very attractive for participants. This year, we want to go bigger, but we have a tight budget. We had planned to find someone to construct our own Wipeout-inspired course, but we're finding it too expensive. Here's what we need: - Ideas/layout for an epic course, but made with easily attainable + inexpensive items - We have MAX two weeks to find/build what is needed - Budget MAX $150. - Available to us would be various sizes of tables, indoor soccer nets, basic sports balls, etc.
Keep in mind that we don't want this to be a simple/boring course. This should be as exciting and big as we can make it with our available resources!

Non-artist/crafty-type in need of some help/tips with a photo-transfer to canvas project.
My wife is ridiculously talented when it comes to DIY, art, & crafty projects, and she gives the best homemade gifts. I, on the other hand, suck with art and crafty-type projects. This year, I'm going to try and impress her with a little photo-transfer gift that I will be handling on my own (you guys, she's gonna flip when she sees I did something crafty!).
I have read plenty of tutorials and watched a few youtube videos, but I still have one question. Do I need to get a separate sealer (mod podge) for the end product, or will the gel medium work to seal it? It's going to be a pretty big canvas (24" x 36") and I will be using a color print for the image.
Also, if you have any other tips from past experiences to make this project go more smoothly, I would REALLY appreciate it! Thanks in advance!
